This unique wine is sourced from Siletto Vineyard, an organically farmed vineyard in San Benito County, home to grape varietals steeped in rich history. For over 170 years, winemakers in this region have worked with rare and eclectic grapes from this site, such as Trousseau, Négrette, Trousseau Gris, and Cabernet Pfeffer, alongside Greco di Tufo, Aligoté, Mencía, Vermentino, Montepulciano, and Nebbiolo. These varieties are nearly impossible to find elsewhere in the area, making this vineyard a true treasure.
The story behind these vines is equally remarkable. John Siletto, the owner of Siletto Vineyards, spoke only Italian until the age of six. With a passion for honoring his heritage, he began grafting rare Italian varietals onto his property over the years. Partnering with this vineyard is a privilege, as it allows us to produce unique wines from lesser known, organically farmed varieties grown with care and respect for the land.
Our Greco di Tufo was meticulously fermented and aged in an amphora—an ancient clay vessel—right here in the library room of our Lone Madrone tasting room. Amphoras provide gentle micro-oxygenation, preserving the wine’s purity and highlighting its vibrant terroir without imparting additional flavors. The result? A wine that bursts with bright citrus and peach flavors, subtle almond notes, and distinctive minerality with a beautiful deep golden hue.
