2019 Oveja Negra:

40% Mourvedre, 25% Counoise, 25% Syrah, 10% Grenache

A wine of familiarity. The nose is driven by sweet leather, molasses, and Provençal herbs. Liquid violets in color with serious dark fruits of black cherry and currant, delivered with a crystal-like granitic structure. The length of this wine is unbelievable, broadened by a texture of Porchetta or Rillette. -Austin Collins

2020 Grenache - Old Oak Vineyard, Willow Creek District Retail: $60 Wine Club $48

This is, for us, a much more familiar rendition of Grenache than the Bassi. Less black and blue in color, more red, softer on the nose. Licorice and cedar with dried rose petals. Lots of candied red fruits amongst the chaparral. On the palate, we find Marionberry with dried Goji and a character that I love to see in this wine: rhubarb, bright and giving a beautiful lift. The tannins, which can in some vintages be awkward with Grenache, here are resolved and supple, carrying good length.

2021 Grenache -  Bassi Ranch Vineyard, San Luis Obispo Coast Retail: $40 Wine Club $32

This is such an interesting wine for us; it is a familiar clone of Grenache Noir but coast-grown, night and day. Lots of blue here, Boysenberry, wild blueberry, all laced with a cedar spice. It is bright, vibrant and lively. The bright character is apparent on the palate: blackberries from the bush, pomegranate acidity spice, and a great violet note. The finish is long and lively. It feels that this wine will be a long-lived one.

2021 Old Hat - Osgood Vineyard, Adelaida District Retail: $60 Wine Club $48 52% Petite Sirah, 48% Zinfandel

The Hat is back! So excited for the return of this wine and to be able to share it at last!!! An impression of oak on the nose, subtle but present, dark chocolate-coated cherry liquor packed with dark fruits, a toasty oak component with a lift of spruce needles. It's deep and full. This nose is intoxicating, a nose to dwell on. On the palate the texture is luxuriant, crushed velvet. Jam-packed with deep dark fruits, melted dark chocolate, Kir, and molasses cookies, all wrapped in floral violet tints. Incredible balance of plushness, acid, and tannin. It's great to have Old Hat back. Cheers Osgoods!
